SAL Notebook: Top Prospect List



The South Atlantic League opens their 2019 season on Thursday. The rosters for each team were released over the last couple of days and there are six players on the SAL rosters that are ranked in the Baseball America Top 100. Here are the top ranked prospects that will start the 2019 season in the South Atlanitc League:

 1) The top prospect in the league is Alec Bohm. Bohm is the #63 ranked prospect in all of baseball. He is a third baseman and will start the season with the Lakewood BlueClaws who are an affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.

 2) Jarred Kelenic is is an outfielder and is the #66 ranked prospect in all of baseball. He will start the season with the West Virginia Power who are an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. He was the top prospect involved in the trade that brought Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz to the Mets

3) Hans Crouse is the only Top 100 prospect that is a pitcher who will start the season in the SAL. Crouse will play for the Hickory Crawdads who are an affiliate of the Texas Rangers. He is the #71 ranked prospect in all of pro baseball

 4) O'neil Cruz is the #79 ranked prospect in all of pro baseball. He is one of three shortstops on this list. He will start the season with the Greensboro Grasshoppers who are an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates

 5) Luis Garcia is also a shortstop and will also be on the Lakewood BlueClaws, joining top prospect Alec Bohm. Garcia and Bohm are the only teammates who are in the Top 100 in all of Class A baseball. Garcia is the #86 ranked prospect in all of pro baseball

6) Ronny Mauricio is the third shortstop on the list. He is ranked #98 and will start the season with the Columbia Fireflies which is an affiliate of the New York Mets.

Hitting: Alec Bohm, Jarred Kelenic, Luis Garcia and Ronny Mauricio all have a 60 rating for their hit tool

Power: Alec Bohm, O'neil Cruz and Ronny Mauricio all have a 60 rating for their power tool.

Speed:  O'neil Cruz and Luis Garcia both have a 55 rating for their speed tool

Defense: Luis Garcia leads the way defensively with a 60 rating for his defense tool

Arm:  Ronny Mauricio leads the way here with an astounding 70 rating for his arm tool
