1948 Red Sox Season Replay: Kramer Quiets The Tigers

This is a 1948 Boston Red Sox Season Replay using the baseball simulation engine of Out of the Park Baseball

May 4th, 1948

Boston starter Jack Kramer had a strong outing against the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 3-1 win. The Red Sox got a big at-bat from catcher Birdie Tebbetts. For the game, Tebbetts went 1 for 3 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 4th double of the season gave Boston a 2-0 lead. "We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Kramer.

Billy Goodman extended his hit streak to 13 games.  The Red Sox move to 8-6 on the season and trail the first place Yankees by a game and a half. The loss by the Tigers knocks them out of first place as they now are a half game behind the Yankees.

The Red Sox and Tigers will play again tomorrow in Fenway Park as Virgil Trucks will face Joe Dobson. Trucks is 1-1 with a 5.64 ERA for the Tigers while Dobson is 3-1 with a 3.18 ERA

The Pittsburgh Pirates lead the National League by one game over the Cardinals and Boston Braves.
