Red Sox Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Yankees

This is a 1948 Boston Red Sox Season Replay using the baseball simulation engine of Out of the Park Baseball

April 24, 1948

The Boston Red Sox trumped the New York Yankees, 8-6, at Yankee Stadium . Boston second baseman Bobby Doerr went 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.

Tex Hughson recorded his 1st save for Boston and struck out Joe DiMaggio in the 8th inning with runners on first and third while the Red Sox were up by just a run. DiMaggio had hit a three run homer in his previous at bat to give the Yankees the lead

Doerr had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 0-1 screwball from Allie Reynolds, he banged a 3-run home run to right-center, giving the Red Sox a 7-5 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Doerr.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Doerr told the Boston Globe.

The Red Sox are now 4-1 and will look to sweep the Yankees tomorrow at Yankee Stadium. The Red Sox will send Jack Kramer to the mound while the Yankees will counter with Randy Gumpert.

The Sox find themselves tied with the Indians for the AL Lead. The Indians are 3-0 on the season. The Yankees fall to 3-2 and are one game back. The St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Braves are both 4-1 and sit in first place in the National League.
