Red Sox Hammer Yanks Behind Goodman

This is a 1948 Boston Red Sox Season Replay using the baseball simulation engine of Out of the Park Baseball

April 23, 1948

The Boston Red Sox defeated the New York Yankees, 11-5, at Yankee Stadium. Boston first baseman Billy Goodman was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 4 for 6 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4.

At 3-1, the Red Sox have played well so far. The Red Sox got a big at-bat from catcher Birdie Tebbetts. For the game, Tebbetts went 2-5 with a double, while adding 4 RBI. In the top of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 5th hit of the season gave Boston a 5-3 lead.

"I felt good up there," said Tebbetts. "I saw the ball well."

Both the Red Sox and Yankees are now 3-1. The Tigers are also 3-1 while the Indians are 2-0 creating a four way tie for first place in the AL. The Red Sox and Yankees will play again tomorrow as Mel Parnell will face off against Eddie Lopat

Around the Majors:

Everything clicked on the hill today for Al Brazle as he hurled the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-0 shutout win over the Chicago Cubs, limiting them to 3 hits while recording 2 strikeouts and yielding 2 walks. He overpowered some batters with fastballs and buckled knees with sharp breaking pitches.

"We had our shot at him a couple of different times," Cubs manager said. "We just weren't able to get to him.

NL Standings Update:

The Cardinals are off to a 4-0 start and lead the Pirates by a half game
