Red Sox Blow It on Opening Day

This is a 1986 Boston Red Sox Season Replay using the baseball simulation engine of Out of the Park Baseball

Monday April 7, 1986

The Detroit Tigers began the 1986 season with a convincing 6-5 win over the Boston Red Sox at Tiger Stadium. Most impressive was Detroit third baseman Darnell Coles, who went 3-5 with 2 home runs and a double. The winner was Willie Hernandez in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Calvin Schiraldi took the loss.

Coles had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the tenth. On a 1-1 fastball from Calvin Schiraldi, he banged a solo home run to left, giving the Tigers a 6-5 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Coles.

"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Coles.

Red Sox are 0-1 on the season and trail the Indians, Tigers and Brewers in the AL East by one game
