Athletics Solve Red Sox, 4-3

This is a 1948 Boston Red Sox Season Replay using the baseball simulation engine of Out of the Park Baseball

Monday April 19, 1948

Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Boston Red Sox were eager to watch Joe Dobson square off against Lou Brissie of the visiting Philadelphia Athletics. In the end, the Athletics won the game, 4-3, with Lou Brissie earning player of the game honors.

One important at-bat for Philadelphia came with one out in the top of the second inning. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Brissie hit a 2-run triple, which contributed to the Athletics win.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Boston skipper Joe McCarthy, "and it cost us."

This was the first game of an Opening Day doubleheader. Mel Parnell will get the start for the Sox in Game 2 while Joe Coleman will take the mound for the Athletics
