This is a 1948 Boston Red Sox Season Replay using the baseball simulation engine of Out of the Park Baseball

April 25, 1948

The New York Yankees got a stellar effort from pitcher Randy Gumpert, helping New York score a 3-1 win over and avoiding being swept by the visiting Boston Red Sox. Gumpert, now 2-0. tossed 6 innings of 3-hit ball, without walking a batter and fanning 2.

Snuffy Stirnweiss, who is a two-time All-Star, aided the New York cause with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the second baseman was 1 for 2 with a double and 2 walks. Stirnweiss told a New York Times reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.

The Red Sox and Yankees are both 4-2 and are tied for first in the AL along with the Indians, Browns and Tigers. The Cardinals lead the Braves by a half game in the NL

Mickey Vernon of the Washington Senators won AL Player of the Week honors while Enos Slaughter of the Cardinals won NL Player of the Week honors.

The Red Sox head to Washington next to take on the Senators in a two game series
