New York Yankees starter Al Downing was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Boston Red Sox, 1-0. Downing picked up the win for New York, going 6 innings. He gave up no runs on 1 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0.

Fritz Peterson recorded the save for New York, his 1st of the season. Billy Bryan drew 1 walk for New York. The 28-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jose Santiago. It was his 1st RBI of the season. Bryan said the team appreciates the support from the fans.

"I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game. New York is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 1st in 3 games.
