1988 Red Sox Replay Season: Red Sox Roll Over Tigers, 10-4

Game 2 of 162 was another Red Sox win, this time it was a classic Fenway Park game. The Red Sox offense bashed Tiger pitching and won 10-4. The offense will have to carry the Sox until Mike Boddicker arrives in a trade midway through the season. After Roger Clemens and Bruce Hurst, the Red Sox pitching is very thin. Hurst got the win today and went the distance but wasn't exactly sharp. Jeff Sellers gets the ball tomorrow as the Sox go for the sweep.

Here is the game story and the boxscore:

It was a good time at Fenway Park, where fans came to watch the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox get after it. Boston starter Bruce Hurst pitched effectively against the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park. The left-hander led his team to a 10-4 win. Boston goes to 2-0 with the win.

The Red Sox got a big at-bat from center fielder Ellis Burks. For the game, Burks went 1 for 5 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the second, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Boston a 4-2 lead.

"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Burks.
