|GAME ID: 28 - FRIDAY, APRIL 21ST, 1939 - GAME LOG|
The Philadelphia Athletics picked up a win at Fenway Park, knocking off the Boston Red Sox, 5-4. Starting pitcher Lynn Nelson, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. The Athletics keep rolling, raising their record to 3-1.
The Athletics got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Frankie Hayes. For the game, Hayes went 1 for 1. In the top of the eighth, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 5th hit of the season gave Philadelphia a 5-4 lead.
"If we keep winning the close games," Nelson said, "we'll be in good shape at the end."
