Dave Collins made an impact in the 6-5 Detroit win over Boston. Collins was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and 3 walks, while scoring 2 times.
Detroit reliever Dan Petry picked up the win to move to 1-0. Oil Can Boyd suffered the loss. Willie Hernandez closed it out for his 1st save.
Darnell Coles had a big 2-run single for the Tigers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Detroit leading 4-3 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Oil Can Boyd and stroked the single to left. It was his 5th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Tigers ahead, 6-3.
"Enjoyed this one," Collins told the Detroit Observer. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
Detroit is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 1st in 3 games.
