Bobby Petrino to the Gamecocks?

Bobby Petrino is an even better coach than I thought. Arkansas is a shell of themselves without their former coach. It makes you wonder why Arkansas even fired him. Yes, I am aware of the scandal but Petrino has never been known as the greatest guy in the world. Arkansas hired him while Petrino bailed out on the Falcons. They were hiring him to win, not to be the next Joe Paterno and have "success with honor", oh wait, bad example. The point is they fired Petrino for being a piece of crap yet they hired him knowing he was a piece of crap. It doesn't make sense.

Then there are my Gamecocks. Times are good right now but Spurrier will only be here for so long. I give him three seasons and I would love to see him walk away on the heels of an SEC title or two. However, what is the plan when he leaves? The Gamecocks are not known for exactly having a great history. For all my issues with Spurrier and his mediocre game coaching skills, he has built the program in Columbia to levels that have never been reached. Who can keep it there?

Bobby Petrino will have a job soon, more than likely at a smaller school to start. However, it is safe to assume that when Spurrier does step down that Petrino will be available for a big job and a return to the SEC. Petrino has won wherever he has gone with the exception of the NFL, something he has in common with Spurrier. There is no doubt that if Petrino could win at Arkansas, he could keep the program at Carolina humming along the highway after Spurrier leaves. Is winning really worth having Petrino as your head coach though? Ask Arkansas fans, I bet they say it is definitely worth it.
